Beach volleyball at the Olympics has garnered a lot of media attention, everything from amazing plays to even wardrobe comments. It is said that no other sport is as closely tied to Rio de Janeiro as beach volleyball, so it is one sport that is followed by the Brazilians very closely.
With quarterfinals on their way, this is what it looks like in terms of which are the favorite teams to make it to the medals podium.
The USA team composed by Philip Dallhauser and Nicholas Lucenna are probably the team that has the highest hopes. To this point, they have won all 4 matches they have participated in, putting themselves in contention to compete in the quarter finals.
The Brazilians Alison Cerutti and Bruno Oscar Schmidt have won 3 out of 4 matches and are also in the quarter finals. Given that they are local, their chances of moving forward are multiplied.
Nikita Liamin and Dmitri Barsuk from Russia are also in contention. With a total 3 wins out of 4, they defeated a rather weak Brazilian couple (not Cerutti and Oscar Schmidt) to make their way to the quarter finals.
The Canadian couple formed by Sarah Pavan and Heather Bansley stand as a strong team with a perfect campaign of four victories. They definitively are candidates to win a medal.
Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst from Germany are very strong candidates to winning this competition. They came in strong with an undefeated streak. This has allowed them to also slide to the quarter finals.
The Australian girls, Taliqua Clancy and Louise Bawden have come to show that they are up to competing with the best. They are also undefeated on all of their four games they. They are expected to kill it at the quarter finals.
